Mid year check

So here we are half way through the year! Every year I make these grandiose new years resolutions, and for some reason I am crazy enough to post them to this blog. Then around December 28th after the Christmas dinner has settled onto hips I start thinking about all of the things I didn’t accomplish in the previous year.

So, in an effort to be accountable to myself (and you people) I am going to review my list and publicly share how much I have (or have not) accomplished. The good news is that I have 6 months to pick up the slack. Perhaps this will help with my annual December remorse.

My 2009 New Years Resolutions

A- I am going to loose this 20 pounds that I put on this year, plus hopefully a little more. I guess all the excitement made me hungry! I am going to be passionate about my health in 2009

I have only lost about 5lbs so far, but I did buy some exercise equipment, and have actually been using it! I also have gone to the doctor a few times for tests, and stuff! Turns out that I may need a little surgery to fix my knee. But once it’s fixed I should be ready to get the pounds off. At the moment I am not sure I am going to make my 20 lbs goal, but I am sure gonna try!

B- I am going to go back to school. I found what I think is the right masters program for me. I am going to apply go, and hopefully finish before I have to drop my daughter off at college

I applied to grad school!!! If all goes well, I will start in September

C- I am going to be even more diligent about my finances. I have this dream of getting 2 mortgage payments in the bank

I have got my 2 mortgage payments in the bank, and have done pretty well at keeping the credit cards paid off. I also took the big leap into the stock market this year. I was inspired by a friend of mine who reminded me that the losses make it a good time to buy. I have not invested much but the fact that I did it, makes me feel like quite the grown up!

D- I want to try and get all of the anger and hate and animosity that I held for the people that have done me wrong out of my heart. Clean slates for everyone in 2009

At the moment, I am not doing so well with this one. But I still believe this year will be full of transformations.

So how are you doing with your resolutions? Leave some comments, and let me know what you have checked off of your list so far? What do you have left to accomplish in the next 6 months?

Whatever it is, I know you can do it!

  1. You know, there are a lot of things I admire about this post. First of all, that you were willing to put it out there. That alone takes guts and I commend you for having them!

Secondly, that you’ve made your weight loss goal a reasonable one and that you’re making time for yourself, in your very busy schedule, to tackle it bit by bit. Acknowledging that you have a goal and keeping in in sight is the only way to reach it and you’re doing that. Fantastic!

Thirdly, grad school? Wow – very impressive. It seems that is something we all need to consider these days if we’re going to succeed in business (yes, we must really try) and regardless of one’s career aspirations, self-improvement is never overrated. What are you planning to study? Perhaps for a post left until August or September…

Finally, being honest about the difficulty you face in wiping the slate clean may be the most admirable admission of all. I’ll avoid my own personal comment on this because I have a method that works pretty well for me, but it’s not for everyone. When you figure out yours, you’ll have to share.

    Way to go, JT.
